Rubricizing ; a term coined by Abraham Maslow. He believed that there are two major ways to preview any experience. One is to observe its unique essence, how the experience is truly different and individualistic. The second, rubricizing, is to respond to an experience as a representative of a category (rubric). Rubricizing perception is similar to the actions of a file clerk who recognizes only what is minimally necessary to place a paper under A, B, Y, and so on. When we rubricize people, we quickly scan them for certain characteristics (often subsconscionusly) and place them into one of our mental file folders. A rubricized person becomes a member of a grouping : waiter, teenager, a Johnson kid, math major, jock, married, female, southerner, sorority type, and so on. Rubrics are categories of the mind.

I once was a van owner. Go watch my last film “Silly” to see Jaret Brantley huck himself over it. So I have much respect for van owners, especially the ones who obviously have no lives and dedicate their futures to making their vans the coolest things on the block.

Just out of retro respect, this van deserves a pic on the website. Look at the detail in the beautiful paint job. And a window like that? Now thats a classic.

         So I just wanted to try and sound rad for a little. I thought saying “these arnt for sale” would make you think “well they must be good but hes telling us he wont be selling them….dang I want one so bad, only if he was selling them. They are beautiful.” Did it work? But yeah Ive been making these little guys lately. They are fun, good to get my mind off things. I’m accused a lot of never sticking to one thing. One day Im drawing, the next im spraying shirts, then sewing beenies and now making weird metal guys. Thats what I like. Mix it up people. Dang… How boring life must be if you only recognize one thing.

I need the funk, gotta have the funk. So right now while Im typing this im talking to Chris Law on AIM. Wanna know what he’s saying?? k Ill tell you. He just said “Got a presentation tomorrow that im not stoked on.” I just said “Sweet, whats it on?” “A chapter in my humanities book” I then say “humanities shamanities”…………..Long pause………..”exactly my thoughts” says Chris……… HAAA……He mentioned to me again that theres a cable park in Oklahoma. He just told me that yesterday.

I brought some of my equipment. Im not going to mention what equipment it was…I can name a hand full of people who will yoink the idea faster than a bee can eat a skittle. But anyways, it wasnt bad. Lovely green fields everywhere. We even saw a deer. But who the heck cares. I see deer every dang day of my life. Hirds, flocks, nests and packs of those furry little cumquates. On the other hand……If your reading this from Florida you may have never seen a deer before. I recall going to Georgia with Kaley and Trevor once. Kaley was freaking out seeing all these deer in Georgia. I guess she had never seen one before. I was freaking out because a dang gator was chasing me. She pet the stupid gator. Hey guys!!! Remember the butterfly museum??? Good times. While talking to Trevor on the phone today Trevor asked me if I wanted to go Georgia and the Phillipeans with him this year. I know thats not how you  spell Phillipeans but I honestly imagine a guy named Phillip and beans every time I hear about that state, I mean country. So thats how Im spelling it from now on. I guess if I ever find my life I will be going to hang out with Phillip and eat some beans this year. Dirga Dirga Dirga Dirga………Thats the sound a morris code machine makes. Announcement!!!! Reed Hansen just signed onto AIM. Im going to try and get his attention…..O dang. He just called me on skype. Im looking at him!!!!!!! We are talking via some cable thingy…..i got nothing. He’s got me on hold. He just sent me a picture….please hold….checking…..He just sent me a pic of Matt Manzari and some girl. Interesting……..10 minutes later……….we are talking about country music. Well this conversation is going great. I just told him about wakeskaters and dirtbikers. Heres my thought. Wakeskaters are like water lillies and dirtbikers are like mud balls. They just dont mix. So all you water friends should stop riding dirtbikes. Im tired of my home slices gettin hurt on bikes that are way to small for them. Reed agreed. Now Reed has me listening to country songs. Something about a mercury car and a fence post. I just sent him a picture of cat. Thats usually where our conversations end up going. Give it 15 mins and we will be sending each other cat pictures back and forth. Well….. Its been about an hour sense I last typed. We really just talked about nothing. But thats whats good about life. Reed took that photo above and its about Stuart Shinn. Photos to me are now about people. Reed and I also decided to go a mercury or two .

    Last week I got to experience a great part of American culture. For the last 50 years Florida has been home to what has been named “The Great American Race”. That’s right race fans I got Hotpasses for the Daytona 500. The lovely folks over at Supra boats have been working with a few Nascar drivers for the past few years and they were able to pull in a favor to get my fiance (Kaley) and I infield passes. As neither one of us had ever been to a race before we were excited and curious on what the day would unfold. The day started out with us leaving our home town of Groveland (which is about an hour and a half drive to Daytona) at 8 AM. Everything was smooth sailing until around Deltona (3/4 the way there) where we came to a dead stop on I-4. Who knew that a race where almost 500 thousand people attend that there would be traffic? We sat on I-4 for around 3 to 4 hours less then 30 min from the track. Let me just say this. If you like BBQ and beer you should start going to Nascar races. With that being said you can imagine what the walk to the track was like. There were people everywhere. Just hanging out drinking and eating. Kaley and I met up with CWB team mate and fellow redneck event fan Corey Bradley. Corey was gong to be riding at the race for some promotional stuff that is too top secret to talk about. So we are walking through the huge crowd with Corey carrying his board and we are hearing things like. “What the hell did you bring your boogie board to the race for?” and ”There is no snow in there”. So for the record don’t carry your wakeboard through a crowd of drunk rednecks. Before the race started we got to go down on the track and sign the wall. I couldn’t think of anything better to write then “We love you Dale”. Standing on the track was pretty amazing I had heard that it was steep but its hard to believe how steep until you are climbing up it. We were standing on the straight away which took some convincing cause it looked a lot like a turn to me but they told us that you cant climb up the turns its to steep. After signing the wall it was time to get off the track and get ready for the National Anthem and the jet fly by. I have never been so proud to be and American then when we where listening to the Star Spangled Banner and watching those jets fly over head it was a pretty awesome moment. So awesome that the guy next to us threw his hands in the air and started screaming USA..WHOO..USA..WHOO..USA. 

The race was awesome. The sound of the cars and the fans is something that everyone should experience. I will definitely be going to the race next year. Until then Godbless America and GO # 9.       I dont know why this dang pic wont turn right?????? guess because its nascar or somethin…….    DT
